In 1969 David Hood, Roger Hawkins, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Beckett, a group of men otherwise known as the Muscle Shoals Rythm Section purchased a small recording studio in Sheffield Alabama located at 3614 Jackson Highway. After renovating the facility, the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, and the "Muscle Shoals Sound" were born.

They went on to record a string of hits with artists such as Aretha Franklin, R.B. Greaves, Lulu, Wilson Pickett, The Staple Singers, Bobby Womack, Mel and Tim, Paul Simon, Traffic, Bob Seger, Millie Jackson, Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, Rod Stewart, Jimmy Buffett, Dr. Hook, Oak Ridge Boys, Glen Frey and the list goes on and on.

In 1978, Muscle Shoals Sound Studio relocated to a more modern 30,000 plus square foot facility on the Tennessee River the 1978 8068 Neve board (now owned and operated by Glenn Brown of Glenn Brown Productions) was purchased for this new facility.

It and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios continued to crank out hit after hit until they sold the studio to Malaco Records in 1985. Malaco Records was initially interested in the Muscle Shoals publishing company, whose catalog included rights to hits such as "Old Time Rock & Roll" and "Torn Between Two Lovers" however they eventually bought the entire facility.

By 2004, due to declining business, Malaco Records was actively seeking buyers for the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and ultimately by 2005 wound up selling off most of the equipment piece by piece and closing it's doors permanently.

It was at this time that Glenn Brown of Glenn Brown Productions purchase the 1978 8068 Neve Mixing Board and EMT Stereo Tube Plate Reverb, and brought them back to GBP's base in East Lansing Michigan.

While it was indeed sad that Muscles Shoals Sound Studio closed it's doors, we feel quite honored to have been able to purchase this amazing piece of American Music History and put it to the use that it was designed for, making professional quality recordings, and giving it's own special flavor of the Muscle Shoals Sound in a new environment. It's honored heritage is venerated , appreciated and will not be forgotten.
